My memory of Mebe was his kindness and thoughtfulness towards his family and friends. He was always eager to give of himself. I remember him taking his Mother and Myself to Van Cortland and Pelham Bay Park for the purpose of helping us exercise. He made it fun so that it did not feel like a chore. He was so positive and encouraging throughout our sessions. Also theatre tickets that he got as a First Responder, he gave to his mother and myself. We were able to see his favorite play the Phantom of the Opera. This same theme was part of his wedding to Paula in Jamaica which I had the pleasure of attending. He loved her in silence until he finally revealed his love to her. He made sure all of our needs were met by being the perfect host. His greatest joy was in making everyone he came in contact with feel very special.
He adored his daughter ,Parris Was thrilled by her choice of a husband, Victor and mesmerized by his grandson also Victor. His love for his nieces and nephews was very evident by their strong bond to him. Mebe will always remain in all of our hearts.

Demetrius was one of the nicest guys I ever met. “D” had a way of touching people’s heart with his friendly smile. He was outstanding athlete in softball and track. I had the pleasure of playing both sports with “D” and he will always come through. During our entire career with the police department we NEVER LOST A RELAY RACE IN THE POLICE OLYMPICS. I love you and will miss you my Brother. RIP

My Brother Demetrius “Mebe”, many of my cherished memories of growing up on Tiffany Street in the Bronx include you in them. Playing sports, riding bikes, and just hanging out with our mutual friends. You were truly a Brother to me and I cherish the time we spent together. I am proud of the man you were and i am honored to have had you in my life.

To your family I send my Love and condolences.

Your Brother Louis “Louie” Cancel. 1071 Tiffany street.

Rest In Peace

We called him D in the Transit Police. D and i also patrolled the outfield for our Championship Transit Police Softball Team. He was a gifted athlete with incredible speed, though we never had a foot race with each other. D always had a smile on his face. God bless his family.
