She was the devoted wife of the late William Douglas Kydd and a loving mother to four children that were her pride and joy, Melody Kydd Davis of Providence, Rhode Island, Richard Kydd, of New York City, Phillip Kydd and his wife Audrey of Warwick, Rhode Island and Michael Alfred Kydd (deceased) and his wife Deborah of South Carolina. Ruth was also “Grandma Kydd” to seven grandchildren, Derrick Davis, Kimtasha Kydd Armstrong, Andrew Phillip Kydd, Robin Kydd, Renee Kydd, Michael Kydd Jr. and Clarissa Sable Williams. Ruth lived a very long and full life. She was very active in her youthful years as a girl scout, participating and competing in gymnastics, softball, and the bowling team, she was also a member of the Hempstead Riding Academy. Ruth spent a number of years in jewelry retail working for Macy’s and Bloomingdales, before making a decision to pursue a career that would enable her to give of herself while helping others. Ruth enrolled in the Nursing program at The Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, where she graduated and was certified as a Pediatric Nurse. Ruth recalled, “Graduating from nursing school was one of the hardest, but most rewarding thing I have ever done.” Ruth spent 25 years committed to providing excellent care to those that visited the hospital. Ruth continued giving of herself after her retirement by engaging in her community; she became an active member of the Patterson Senior Center, where she served as Treasurer and President of the Senior Association. She organized fieldtrips, worked for improved health screening and nutrition counseling for center members. In 2009, Ruth was recognized for her work with seniors with a Citation of Community Service from former President George W. Bush.
Ruth was fascinated with Butterflies; she loved their beauty and grace and amassed an impressive collection of pictures and pins over the years.
